Genital herpes is an incredibly common illness that has a string of similar infections that affect people around the world.

In this article, we discover what genital herpes is, look into related infections, and explain how it can be treated.

WHAT IS GENITAL HERPES?

Genital herpes is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) that is passed through unprotected sex. The biggest symptom is painful blisters on the genital area, thighs, and anus. Other symptoms include itching, burning and flu-like symptoms.

Genital herpes is a virus that is caused by a strain called the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), this strain of virus also causes cold sores. There is no cure for a herpes infection, but it can be managed.

HOW DOES ACICLOVIR WORK?

Aciclovir is an antiviral medication that is used to treat herpes infections and can therefore be used to treat cold sores, chickenpox and shingles.

Aciclovir tablets work by limiting how many times the virus will duplicate in your body, which helps to ease the symptoms of the herpes infection. The medication also helps to prevent outbreaks from happening and lessen how long these outbreaks last should they occur.
